Gentle Dose of Humility

Thanks and much love to all those from work who helped me prepare for the state licensing exam. One thousand pardons, I beg of you if I failed any or all parts of it.

Our HR person booked us in a nice hotel. Everything was wonderful. I stayed booze free and studied last night while I watched the Heat take Game One against the fool Cuban and his Mavs.

I may talk more about what went right or wrong with the exam, but that's not what I am thinking about now. There was a sweet moment as I was driving south in the Land of Lincoln. The reception for 670 was going the way of the do do so I was losing the SOX game.

I wasn't mad, the club was kicking ass and if Boston came back after the SOX were up 10-1, I didn't want to hear about it.

As Ed Farmer's voice became unintelligible (as a result of static, not just the normal weird stuff he says) I changed stations and found the Cardinal's radio broadcast. The radio play-by-play guy for St. Louis is John Rooney and for those who don't know John Rooney was the long time radio voice for the Chicago White SOX (along with Ed Farmer, who was actually a good listen when he did games with Rooney).

Hearing those two voices share the airwaves for a brief, accidental moment was a joy. It took me back to all those SOX games good and bad that I followed on radio for years. Thank God for baseball, it doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things, but when it brings us these little joys it seems like it means everything.

Then I thought, 'Why am I listening to the Cardinals' radio broadcast? I don't like the damned Cardinals'

Enough of the great escape of baseball and back to the test, the reason for my trip to our states crapitol. Consider me sufficiently knocked down a peg even if I end up doing better than I thought. The test was hard, parts took me by surprise and that's what made it a humbling experience. Oddly enough, that's what I have enjoyed about this whole process. I won't speak for everyone, but for a person like me, it's good to be humbled. And the folks down there couldn't be nicer so if you're going to have a rough time at something, at least there are some swell folks who are part of the evaluation process.

Ok, I'm not making much sense now so off to bed with me.
