Second Things First
I think we’re pretty sure that Dil is the first single we’ll release as Action City. Should anybody trust anybody else who says “I think we’re pretty sure”…?
What’s to trust? – it’s a dopey CD single. I love Dil – and I think everyone else does. Of course at some point I’m going to focus my energy on something pointless – the B-side!…or one of the extra songs…whatever. Dil is the main song – it’s going to be the one made available on the Action City site when it’s finally up and running – and it’s the only one we’re going to ask reviewers to review.
Having said all that – I’m convinced that I’m going to try to convince the other guys that we should put the live to tape version of ANY QUESTIONS we recorded (like two years ago)…with the Dark Squirrel on the first Action City release. Why? Because things are going well and it’s my job to fuck shit up.
No. Is their sonic weirdness with ANY QUESTIONS?
Yes. There always is with an ADF production – but sonic weirdness is not necessarily a bad thing. It’s a product of time spent eq’ing the rack tom and making sure to mix in "backwards drummer's perspective" – learning new shit as you go – working on a low/no budget – something that I’ll simply refer to as the Cheech and Chong factor - and the general rule that accidents are gonna happen. But this recording – despite any defects – is, in my not so humble eyes…beautiful. Even though it doesn’t sound like a blues song – it has that feeling. And even though that sounds like a thing I shouldn't aspire to - I do. Ok, it sounds like a blues song if it was written right after a Phil Jackson press conference...Yes, I am hopeless.
No. Devin’s last solo has everything I love about that kind of guitar playing – and reminds anyone who cares to be reminded - of what the fucking song is about…On the what the song is about – the lyrics are pretty much the best I can do – or the kind of shit that – for better or worse, makes me feel like I have some sort of clue as to what it is I am doing. By the way, I hope when I write entries about music or stuff I’m doing – I hope nobody reads this and thinks I’m foolish enough to believe that I think people are waiting – breathing hard for this shit – or that I feel I need to offer some magical insight into the mystical bullshit that I spend plenty of my life engaged in….
No. The reason I write about this is mostly to remind myself of things – or to try to figure out if I know what I’m doing. If I don’t – it’s way too easy to let things slip away…Anyhow, apologies aside – here’s what I think is the “best I can do” –
In perfect harmony
We agree to disagree that
Something has gone wrong
If it’s love that counts then
We’re as good as gone
When you said
That the ship is sinking
That’s not a question
It’s wishful thinking
Here’s the most amazing thing that’s happened this week. After all the time Mr. J and I spent talking about some high fallutin’ mumbo jumbo bullshit – we both decided (within 24 hours of each other) to write about tv…check out the link over to the side – his is much more thorough than mine. We are (temporarily) sparing everyone from seeing the orangutan with a revolver confront the man foolish enough to be gleefully handing out revolvers.
…and now I’ve decided to use the blog for the same thing I’ve wasted over 7000 pages writing about in my old journal…
…I’m writing about writing. There’s a special place in hell for shit like that.

Heh. Did you actually say that to Stryk?
Classic!
I like to think of myself as somewhat of a pseudo-authority on the music business, therefore I have two words for you: "Bonus Track(s)". You can take any assorted crap and tack it on to the end of an album as "bonus material" and people feel like they're gettin' something extra. No matter how awful, people LOVE that shit. Just don't do "hidden" tracks - that's just fucking annoying.
I think that we both turned to the cathoderay tubed god as a "vacation" from thinkin' (just like everyone else). Now I'm rested, ready, and have my Gatorade bottle at hand if you want another philosophical throw-down. Biatch.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking - even bonus tracks (listed of course because I'm proud of the song) on a CD single.
You are so sexy when you call me names. I'll get back too it next entry - Maybe we can start it back up with one question. More tomorrow.
Very nice site! Zocor chongqed
