Thanks all for the kind words regarding the boy's birthday...especially thanks to my family members (aka goo and olekobe) who come here and post often. I know it's dorky but I'm glad we try to use this blog to do a little keeping in touch. Every year around his birthday I try to go back through my old day book and revisit the events around his birth. Last year I posted the letter I wrote to the boy the day before he was born. This year, in honor of his 6th birthday I will post my original journal entry from the 6th day of his life:

Thursday April 26, 2001 - 7 Important Ounces

Before I left for work this morning Judy the Lactation Consultant came by and weighed Alex. He had gained just over 7 ounces in the last 24 hour period. Kim and I were so relieved (although part of me was disappointed because now no one needs the dirty diapers I have been saving in a Ziplock Freezer bag labled:

DIAPERS FOR ANALYSIS!

I am a complete moron and have no business being a father. Fortunately the Squirt doesn't know that yet so I've got some time to get my shit together.

I called my folks right after Judy the Lactation Consultant (I love saying that) left. I wanted to give my P's some good news about the Squirt.
