The Weirdness

Not that the weirdness.

This weirdness, today’s weirdness took place in DK and was one of the weirdest bits of weirdness I have ever tangentially participated in in this f’d up but still weirdly wonderful town.

Today, I think I called the police on the Army.

I drove down south 1st street on lunch and saw a guy in desert fatigues running across 1st St, east on Prospect carrying what looked like a field rifle with an easy to carry handle for running into battle or wherever this guy was running.

This is no fucking bullshit. Saw my lovely bride when I got home, told her what I saw and told her I wasn’t calling 911 because after all that has happened out here, I am the last guy who wants to cause a panic. I was calling the regular DK police number because maybe they could check if the National Guard was organizing an exercise and this guy was running late.

He had to get to Army.

Sorry Buster.

Oh, forgot to mention, I saw this guy right as I was listening to NPR’s report on the 5-4 decision (majority opinion by Scalia) re-defining the right to bear arms as an individual right.

I wish I had the presence of mind to yell to the guy, “Hey I see you are already celebrating.”

But instead I just sort of muttered to no one in particular, “Fuck me! What the fuck is that deal?”

All the time I've spent around guns and I don’t believe I ever saw a real live person running with a real live gun, live and in person.

I gave my name when I called this...whatever it was...in, and was surprised when the police called back. I was not the only person who saw this person and there was a search on, but they could not find the person of interest, who I shall call Buster.

I asked OD if it was just some guy trying to get to National Guard Duty or something and he was quick to point out, “Ed, they don’t let the guys take the guns home with them!”

How am I supposed to know? I was never in Army. I was never in ROTC. Hell, I was never in Cub Scouts.

Those who know me know I am not much of a joiner.

So that’s all I know at this hour.

What am I? Jim McKay?

One sports note as I leave (hopefully not forever)…

Can some major league team BESIDES THE FUCKING WHITE SOX step up and beat the Twins?!?!? Hello, you get paid a big league salary too? Probably more than the Twins players!!! They traded all their big ticket players (besides the Joes – Nathan and Mauer).

Come on other major league teams, you’re better than this!

A half game lead in the AL Central my aching ass!
