I have no idea what the title means. I do know this – if it’s hhe, it’s for me and give me three. My job kicks ass because the people there listen to me. We have a new set of functions for processing repairs. When it was first installed there were tons of fucking problems. Almost nothing worked. We have a system of public files on the company whatever…I just mentioned to one of the supervisors and one IT guy that I was keeping a running list of shit I broke on the new “R”epair screen. Two days later, both of them came up to me and told me that they were actually meeting to fix some of these things – and my job would be to continue to try and break things on the program and let them know what I could or could not do.
Now we are down to one or two or five functions that the “R”epair screen can not seem to do. It’s better than where we were when we started. At first the program could do almost none of the functions I needed it to do. I fixed one of these last fuck ups by (what would Paul McCartney say?) fooling the machine. I showed MKS (who jumped in on the whole process later but she’s been trying to troubleshoot problems with this thing at the other end…the shipping end). She told me basically to try my fucked up way of “fixing” the problem – monitor the shipping of the thing in question and let her know if it works. Technically the thing shipped on Friday, but I couldn’t check it until today. It worked, the right product replaced the broken thing and everything I ordered up worked. Yay. MKS told me to share the love and let everyone know.
I don’t really do anything that sophisticated at my job. I try to use common sense when I can. It is just rewarding to know that people who run things do listen to me, and let me do things my own fucked up way if I think it helps. I’m not going to change the world or get famous or make bank cleaning wax from h.a. receivers and/or sending them to one of our labs…but I fucking like what I do. We provide products and services to people who couldn’t afford them any place else. The owners always have time to ask me how my kid is. I don’t stay up worrying about whether or not I am going to make my numbers for the quarter, the fiscal year or the fi-douchebag calendar.
ok that was just unnecessary
I just thank God for my job.
Never thought I’d ever say some dumb ass shit like that.

Kudos, edP. It always feels good to be recognized for doing a good job, especially when it's not really your job to do - just something you did because it needed doing. I used to be a lot more like that than I am now - I scaled back because I got tired of being the only one like that and refused to do any more until someone else stepped up to the plate. In short - I got old and pissy. Here's hoping you don't, and here's hoping others follow your lead.
I never would have imagined there was such a demand for hearing aid repair. But your comparison of putting hearing aids in ears to sticking poles into pits of mud made it clear. Good job.
T has this fascination with yanking little hairs out of my ears. I think she's part gibbon (on my side of course).
re: the sticking poles into pits of mud - are those the origins of the "f" word?
I'm not sure how much of a demand there is for hearing aid repair...we have good months and bad - I guess I'm just happyu to be working in the absence of a bottom line.
Oh, steener, don't get me started on Renaissance perverts. I've been reading "How to Do It: A Guide to Living for R. Italians" and there's all sorts of pervy tidbits like inducing labor by cramming an apple up the woman's backside. Note that I didn't say "apple slice," or even "apple core," but "apple." No wonder everybody dropped dead.
