Something for No One
That’s what you get when you blog about lyrics you don’t want to forget and Cliff Polite.

Follow the Drinking Gourd
The water’s good if you don’t look
At the soil test the city took
Let’s grab a glass let’s drink it down
Cuz it feels real cool inside our mouths
Do you like this thing I’m riding now
On my way back up this mountain out
Every night well you’d go out
And this is where that gets you now
They won’t need to investigate
How you ended up this way
Happy drugs and fancy clothes
All those dreams and fading smoke
A million tears had stained your dress
We found you here a bloody mess
Let’s leave the liquor store
We don’t need anymore
To soothe these open sores
Let’s follow the drinking gourd
That runs right past our door
We’ll follow the drinking gourd
That runs right past our door

[the above shit was my text equivalent of a gourd – but upon further reviews it looks like a chorus line of buttholes]
I forgot how much the Cleveland Indians get under my collar. I have to remind myself that out of the teams in the Central – the SOX were the ones to finally break through – not Cleveland not the Twins. I know the Twins won some W.S.s but that was before I came back to following the game the way I do now. (how many times did I switch tenses in that sentence???) Yeah it’s all about me right. What was it that the Sultan of Swaff called me a few posts back? Chicken Little. Let’s all just hope for a split with a “W” tomorrow.
Coop left Polite in through his struggles in the 8th. I’m happy Cliff got out of it. Watching a guy like CP is one of the reasons I love baseball. Basically he has two pitches, one arm angle, he’ll never be able to change speeds on a slider, throw 99 miles an hour, drop the hammer etc…but last year he got it together and helped win the WS and be part of the greatest team in Chicago baseball history (that part isn’t saying too much except to a boob like me). Polite’s not the same guy this year. He gave up a run in the 7th tonight but he fought through a bunch of shit and didn’t allow any runs in the 8th. His coach and his manager need him. Even though his team was trailing 5 zip getting those three outs and no runs in the 8th tells everyone who needs to know ‘I’m here I’m trying to fight through this shit’. No one has ever written so much about Cliff Polite.
The dream Polite
He left some ducks on the pond
The dream Polite
He left some ducks on the pond...
ok that song might be better then the actual song song (blue?) I'm working on - above
double preposition ending and
I'm out.

The Sox's bullpen last year was flawless and unhittable, like my Nasty Boyz back in '90. It's only natural they would be mere mortals this year, and that's cool too. The thing most baseball people underestimate is how streaky pitchers can be--it's not just a hitting phenomenon. So often when a club brings up a rookie who's been pitching lights out in the minors for a month, he'll get lit up in the bigs a couple times and get sent down again. The Shlubs did that with Rich Hill and Angel Guzman and I think that was the case with Charles Haeger too. The Sox have the luxury (and brains) of using their relievers in situations where they can be successful---righty vs. righty or lefty vs. lefty. And if all else fails, you bring in the Meat with the Heat. He's looking more and more confindent out there. I almost felt sorry for him last year. During the locker room celebrations, the big fella always seemed to be looking for someone to hug.
Bobby's back that's for sure. In one way, the SOX have accomplished addition by subtraction by getting rid of Domaso Marte. Lefty or no I was not sorry to see him hit the trail. If only the SOX had Howry and Eyre. Ha ha.
I think Thorton is gaining confidence too.
I loved the Nasty Boyz - that's sort of when I came back to baseball. Rob Dibble e-mailed me once. It is saved in my "cool notes"
I am a huge nerd.
I went to a coaching clinic last December that was so poorly attended because of a snowstorm that I practically was one one one with David Delucci, Brett Tomko, and Jim Brower. I love seeing people out of their element where there's no built in status. They were totally cool and told a lot of stories that would never see the light of day otherwise. Oh man, that Thornton guy could be a huge plus. It's ridiculous to think you can get a lefty who throws 98 for Joe Borchard. He's no Billy Wagner, but he could become the best setup lefty in the biz with a little Coop lovin'.
Each start Thorton seems to get confidence.
Don't discount Joe Borchard. He made Cub pitching look bad with a couple of homers in the Marlin series. That's not wasy to do, is it?
My mind tells me noto worry. The Sox fan in me already is worried. Pitching doesn't look as strong as last year and the bullpen scares me at the moment. But Cooper will get it together - best pitching coach in baseball. And I miss Aaron Rowand.
Thurs night's game was pretty frustrating. But with the SOX it's always worth hanging in there baby
Hey what a great site keep up the work its excellent.
