Joey

When I first heard of the initial charges against Scooter - - as possible indictments were dropped against Hot Karl and others, I couldn’t help thinking about the Bob Dylan song from Desire about the gangster Joey…

They got him on conspiracy,
They were never sure who with…

My friend the PDawg asked how the grand jury investigation, the official charges and subsequent verdict…how these things differ from Blewinski or if he should care about these things.

I can’t speak to the second part.

But I can tell you why I cared to follow the trial, the very public arguments, and now I still care about these interviews with the jurors (or at least the one guy who’s been putting his nose out there after it all came down yesterday)

This is a different sort of hypocrisy than the Chief Executive lying under oath…and I think the Klinton thing was significant (not that I supported the impeachment, but I did not vote for president Klinton when he ran the 2nd time in ’06. I thought there was no appreciable policy difference between he and Dole and I thought Dole actually neutralized the Newtophiles and the real culture warriors among the R’s…Klinton energized them)…

…and my big problem with Klinton was thinking what would it be like having a sitting president, potentially on the witness stand AND THIS WAS ALL PRE-IMPEACHMENT SHIT – THIS WAS PAULA JONES…

I thought in some ways, Klinton wasn’t worth the trouble…and believe me he and his wife inspired me in 1992 until I learned what those bad loans on Whitewater meant for little people who had $30 grand in Arkansas banks…who Mrs. Klinton and her friends stole from…

But you asked about Scooter.

These Bush admin jokers came in and said the Klinton years were full of security leaks, lost laptops of Los Alamos and they VOWED…

Fucking VOWED (I remember Smug Rummy’s fucking press conference on this shit)

VOWED TO END LEAKS AND SHORE UP OUR NATION’S INTELLIGENCE…

This was right after the election and pre-9/11.

AND TO OUT V PLAME IN THE NAME OF COVERING THEIR BAD INTELLIGENCE AND BAD SPEECH WITH ITS FAULTY 16-WORDS AND COVER THEIR POLITICAL ASSES…

This is beyond hypocrisy and if there is any hope that the Bush gang is remembered for this lying for the sake of a war that the nation doesn’t need….

…and I know PDawg might be inclined to say nobody is gonna remember Scooter five years from now…or the same people who remember that De Sec Gates was up to his eyeballs in Iran-Contra will remember about Scooter and it won’t matter…

True, but at least the nation knows, and some of these jurors believe this was a cover up and maybe from the highest levels (or at least Hot Karl)…

Even though Fitzgerald closed the case, and people are frustrated that no one is going further with this…this testimony is now a matter of public record.

Maybe we can’t afford to, or it is too late to really punish the skanky fucks that are really behind it all…

…but I am not looking for perfect justice from the American court system…or really in any of America’s institutions.

The Scooter case, and especially Russert and other media members defending themselves and what they do (even though they didn’t always look good in this defense)…

People stood up and went after the Veep’s top dog. And the Bush people are getting some of the scorn and infamy they deserve…

Does anybody come out looking good in this? No, but people only look good at the end of a sitcom.

This isn’t a sitcom, this is America.

It’s a tragicomedy baby.

Thanks for the rundown. And the rubdown.

It's been interesting to watch how this all plays out. There's tons of "intimations," tons of "this will have reverberations," in short, tons of commentary (as opposed to reporting) which amounts--once again--to wishful thinking by Bush's opponents. I think half the people following this case think Libby was found guilty for revealing the identity of a CIA agent.

But that is not what happened, and not the case--the whole point of which vanished early on. Did an administration try to do some damage control, and screw that up? Sure. Can such a "revelation" possibly "rock the administration at the highest levels" as we are reading everywhere?

I highly doubt it.

I like Fitzgerald. I would enjoy watching the administration sweat. But I don't think it did. And like I said, when you look at the events in question--what actually occurred--it's less Machievellian (and more Mayberry) than portrayed.

I really think the whole idea that "outing" Plame (and thereby supposedly placing her in grave danger) to "get" Joe Wilson...does that strike anyone else as dumb? Say what you want about Hott Karl and Scooter--they're not dumb.

Scooter is no fucking Oli North. The real problem and it is going to be a real fucking problem unless the American people pull there heads out of there asses. We now have had 16 years of bad management. You can say what you want about Reagan but the great jobs and boom of the 90’s was mostly his doing(or at least his admins doing).

The countries economy is HUGE and steering it in one direction or another can take decades. You won’t see the effects of bad management for years to come. Remember “Trickle Down Economics”. It was put in place to stave off the Japanese economic juggernaut booming in the 80’s. Just like the Berlin Wall fell so did the Japanese economy, they are still in a depression. If you can’t tell I like Regan as The President. As far as I can tell the only real one we have had in my life time. These other jokers are pretenders. Bush Sr had a more productive Pres only because he just keep the machine rolling. Then the train wreck started.

Now we have two sides who play off the same ol none issues. No one wants to talk about how to fix things or correct problems. They want to debate stem cell research, abortion, gay marriage and all that jazz. These should not be Federal topics, period. Why even have State Government. At some point the system broke and it might just collapse under its own weight. The Federal Gov is a giant sink whole.

The only good thing that comes from total destruction. Is rebirth and we just might see it in our life time.

I can't really agree that the boom in the 90s (and being a beneficiary of it) had anything to do with Reagan's policies. The boom had nothing to do with "trickle down" and everything to do with grass-roots innovation. The calls by Clinton/Gore to shift our technology policy toward public investments in private industry and to give money to the higher ed researchers spurred the economic boom. Reagan would have left it to MSFT to drive innovation and we'd all still be using Windows 3.x.

That aside, the short-sighted and under-handed strategies this admin has employed actually do leave me thinking they are dumb. If they're not dumb, they just figure the majority of the population is too dumb to notice or understand what they are doing. Unfortunately (and to p-dawg's point), they pretty much are.

Not really up for the political debate about Clinton/Gore spurring innovation. Although I hear Gore did invent the internet. I will disagree about it not being Ronny. The man had vision and saw that the pension driven systems of the past where not the way of the future. He also had a lot of faith in the American worker and there ability to adapt and learn new skill sets.

His speeches alone are what spurred the nation to a different type of a innovative economy. I have gotten in this argument before and most Democrats would like to rewrite history and that’s fine. Dems I talk to today talk about Ronney being no better than today Repub. He was the last President to have a HUGE majority of the vote. One of the reasons he had so much power was he was so popular with everyone and that scared the shit out of the boot licker politicians afraid to lose there jobs.

If anything Clinton/Gore did during there term was fall asleep at the wheel and allow the Enron, MCI, Arthur Anderson ect. Happen I don’t think they were responsible they just didn’t care one way or the other. One was hittin interns and the other was inventing the internet. I have no delusions that a Pres can truly affect much in there presidency short of the really drastic actions, The New Deal(Now the reason Gov is so bloated and incompetent and going to be crushed under its own weight) or War.

I am not saying Repubs or Dems are better. I am just saying the Ronny was our last real Pres, regardless of his party affiliations. I also think with the failure of Federal Government and the failure of State Government to wrestle power from incompetent Federal Government. We are in trouble in the future. I don’t think the country will fall apart or anything drastic. I just don’t think we will see the prosperity of the 90’s for some time, or at least not for the middle class. The top 1% is wealthier than it’s been since the robber barons and the middle class is being crushed.

I'm gonna stick with my Scooter discussion on this one boys and respond to PDawg...

1st - it wasn't necessarily putting Val in harm's way that was the "get-back" at Joe Wilson...rather his "connection" with the CIA and a particular officer at the CIA might portray him as someone tainted or sharing his wife's unhappiness and hopefully "help" reporters draw the conclusion that Wilson's op-ed about the yellowcake from Niger or wherever had more to do with an insider, ax-to-grind rather than being what it was...A SOUND INTELLIGENCE ASSESSMENT OF SADDAM'S INABILITY TO REALIZE HIS NUCLEAR AMBITIONS (not to be confused with his blonde ambition)!!!

Whether or not it was a good plan is now beside the point...I think the lies or two & three different stories exposed is evidence of something -

You say, produce evidence of this cover up and I again point to Tim Russert who has (or had) a lot less ax-to-grind against the Veep's office than others in the media...

...which is maybe why Scooter picked him to lie about...he thought he had a friend of D-Chain on the chain and somehow he would back up his story or conveinently not remember things in such a damning way....

Listen to the initial interview testimony where Scooter fingers Russert(ewww) as the person who told him about Val...

Then read the transcipts of Russert 's 9 minutes on the stand. There is no doubt in my mind (as there is now no doubt in the jurors' minds) that the Russert story was not a case of one of Scooter's memory lapses but rather a deliberate effort to get out of trouble and end it once and for all.

I would agree PDawg, up to a point, that this does not ascend to a level of politics that can be described as Machievellian...BUT I think the actions of these guys who are supposed to be the ones who make the nation strong...

...esp in the post-911 world - they were going to fix the intelligence problem in America...they fucked over good intelligence for the sake of the report they wanted to make, the story they wanted to tell

That's worse than Machiavellian...it's downright dangerous. There is a sense that Princes who know what true virtue is can make the state stable while making the subjects their secret slaves

This ain't that.

But it ain't Mayberry or innocent political shennanigans...

It may not have any reverberations but I hope thinking Americans will realize that nothing shocked this administration or made it come to its senses at any point in the run up to war with Iraq...

And in the process of defending their policy RATHER THAN THE FUCKING NATION...they didn't care what rules they broke, who they undermined, what good intelligence they ignored...

Sorry to get all red, white and blue witht this shit but America deserved better.

As a former Marine and having a family that has served for many generations. We do deserve better. I am extremely disappointed in the American people and there leaders. I didn’t sacrifice 4 years as a fucking Grunt to have people be fucking stupid.

I think of that cheesy movie Starship where only people who serve in the military get to vote and be citizens. I thought it was campy at the time, now I think it makes sense. If these spoiled douche bags actually had to stomp around in a jungle, desert or in the arctic. They might have a different perspective on putting young Devil Dogs in harms way.

But we are not to question why we are just to do or die. (Just wish it wasn’t for douche bags)

Semper Fi Mother Fuckers.

First, thank you MeatHead. I wonder how you and your family reacted when President Bush said the whole of the nation was sacrificing "emotionally" for the war? I was insulted and I didn't do shit. I can only imagine the thoughts of those serving now and those related to those serving now and those who served at anytime (without having to leave early for reasons not totally specified)...

Sorry.
