Five and a Third

So the Kooch is planning to file articles o’impeachment against the Veep. I wonder if the Democrats will realize that the message the voters sent in the midterms is that they are to combat the policies of the Bush administration especially regarding the war rather than members of the administration themselves…I have no interest in seeing Hot Karl tracked down through RNC e-mail addresses, this thing happening to the Veep…Gonzalez deserves what he is getting because I think it is for the best politically…for both D’s and R’s…

I hope the Democrats on the Hill will find the point where sniping at the administration’s rogues gallery ends, and a responsible pursuit of a legislative strategy to end the waste in IRock begins.

Oh wait, they are the Democrats. They will never get their shit together, especially now when it matters.

I am no Elephant but someday I will offer a series of posts offering my praise for what the Republicans did or the promises they kept beginning in ’94 and carrying on until they sold their souls to the Bush coalition on the war and the appeals they made to the anti-immigration folks and the religious right knuckleheads in America.

The big ass Elephants didn’t have quite the occasion to rise to (?!?) when they first got the Congress back, but rise to it they did and gave people like me hope that one of the parties would open their tent. The R’s did that, and they extricated the ideologues too. Sure Newt and his rhetoric (among other things) became a political liability, but look who they tried to replace him with (Livingston the fiscal conservative who was no culture warrior and no douchebag ideologue) and when Livingston’s bid collapsed amid scandal they found a man with no such skeletons in his closet, someone who did not placate or speak the language of the bowtie-bookish ideologues on the Right or the other sort of intellectual elites on the Left…In the longest serving Republican SoH they offered America the kind of leadership they promised…someone who spoke the language of the American heartland…

We all know what revolved around the R Congress at the end, but when the American people call for a change in the Congress, especially when they make the president’s opposition the party in control of the Congress – it is a sign that the American people want the Congress to come back to them.

By 1994, really by the first 100 days of the Klinton administration many of us who voted for him (like me, I was someone who really believed in Klinton and his wife) realized that we did not get what we thought we were getting. Big surprise in politics, I know. At best he was an empty shirt that blew in the direction of the polls and co-opted every position of his opponents that he could wrap his arms around…at worst he ran as a centrist and then left Steffi misdirect his gays in the military policy, the debate on National Health (setting it back to Cro-Magnon days). Americans who voted for the R’s to take back the Congress found that the ideologues in the Klinton admin, and the rot and rotten ideologues in the Donkey Congress no longer represented them. They understood they wanted the kind of change the Contract of America crowd promised.

NOW?

I think Americans, if they understand themselves don’t mind that NancyP visited the Syrians (this is a policy shift away from the Bush international relations fiasco)…but where is the advantage for the American people, or where is the percentage in chasing down the criminal behavior of Bush’s underpants…underlings…same difference? It is time for the D’s in the Congress to rise to the occasion and win this legislative and public opinion battle…to get draw-down or a withdrawal of troops deadline in the bill and force Bush to sign or go down in flames. This is for the best of the country…if they can get their shit together, rise to the occasion and do this shit…

We’re screwed.

On the topic of rising to the occasion, Crazy Carlos can not have outing after outing where he throws over 100 pitches by the end of the 5th or beginning of the 6th inning and leaves the cubs’ fate to their bullpen. 4 and 2/3s? 5 and 1/3? This is not an ace…these are not even quality starts.

I might be a bad source for this since I don’t think quality starts are even quality starts.

I’ve praised Carlos here before…but until things change, he’s 33 Javier Vazquez.

Did you happen to see the Daily Show with the author of the Blackwater book? It's startling. I guess there are almost as many "private security" troops there as there are actual military. That means that statistics (deaths, injuries) we see are probably only half of the actual numbers.

It also means that even if we were to do a full troop withdrawal, there could still be a significant military presence in the region. (Don't forget, rules of engagement don't apply to private mercenary companies.)

Excellent points ChrisB...leaving behind a corporate mercenary army may be one of the only Machiavellian justifications for M. Bush's big fucking mistake invasion of IRock...again not that I am morally in favor of these private security folks carry out some sort of shadow adgenda...I'm just saying it is one of the few potentially useful "security" moves instigated by those in favor of the making of the Iraq Civil War

Meathead, poor Meathead.

How long before hitters begin to figure out Javy's new pitches?

I still think Javy will be able to work out stuff and get through 5 innings pretty well.

That ain't saying much.

If JV can somehow learn to trust his fastball a little more he has a chance for some success

uh, maybe going 7 innings every so often.
