Far Out Ms. K

My friend from back in the day (the chocolate milk girl - kaka) did a few posts in a row that were flashbacks to DeKalb in the mid 90's.

I don't know what to make of this - but I have noticed that all my memories of that time in my life are good. It's taken some time but I've somehow managed to refile (or repress) all the nasty things that happened and let the good shit bubble up to the top. There's a picture of kaka in front of a stage where the you know what's played later...seeing her there I remembered how the show looked with the beersoaked hood on a Bulls sweatshirt drooping over my hungover melon. Oh, they weren't all happy days - like the time when those card sharks hustled me and Bill Garver out of our money and my dad Tom Bosley had to go and win it back.

...also I just found out that DeKalb's coolest rock star ever is now a roller girl. That rules.

I guess I'm going a long way to say I'm glad that my instant flashbacks all seem to be good ones. Maybe to ruin others good feelings about those times - I need to send Ms. K a floatingBasement CD - although I think we became friends later and she missed most of those misadventures. Some people have all the luck.

There is actually a time period in DeKalb history (ha ha) before the pictures and stories told in kaka's blog that I am most fond of...I just moved back - and some idiot opened a brewery right across the street from where Bill and I lived. There were three territories around the bar: TERRITORY ONE: Mayor Quimby (everybody who gives a crap knows who I mean) and his cronies were making sure the liquor was in compliance with their livers...TERRITORY TWO: ChrisB and the Rod Almighty crowd (Chris and I weren't really friends yet so I hadn't had the chance to drag him down with me) and TERRITORY THREE: me and Bill Garver.

Don't get me wrong, I am not one who constantly lives in the past, romanticizes it - whatever...my life has gotten better - I'm just glad my memories have become sweeter.

Life must be lived and today is precious, we are not guaranteed tomorrow- so good for you. But reminiscing can be GOOD TIMES as long as you don't live in the past. I got quite a kick of sending Ms. Kaka quite a few pics from back in the day. Would you like me to email them to you? What if I upped the ante by finding the Ambersons pics from outside at the comons? Oh, wait, I forgot, you don't know any of them.

And is the "brewery" you speak of that one that tried to be all neon and tropical and just ended up sucking hobgoblins? I HATED that place. Didn't Sims cook there for awhile?

Anywho, let me know if you want pics

The brewery in question did suck hobgoblins in the end - but not before we sucked a ton of beers down whilst making fun of the Mayor. If you send 'em to ChrisB - or ask ChrisB for my e-mail you can send 'em. I'm not trying to be a prick but my students are always trying like hell to google me...especially since word got out about my rock 'n roll misadventures. It's hard to teach in a town where one so very publiclcy made an ass of themself. I still make an ass out of myself as a teacher - I just get paid a bit more for doing it.

I sent them to Chris at the last email adress I had for him. I hope it's still current. Ask him to forward them to you.

Thank God the people where I work didn't know me in college. I'm feeling for you.

ED: You know, my memories from Dekalb are almost all good :) I had such a blast out there--after the first year or so I spent getting to know people, having moved from CT, I was just blown away by the music/after hours/music at after hours scene.

I have so many picture of you and the other Ambersonians. The 5th St parties, concerts, etc. Everyone.

And yes, I missed the FB days, dang it. But would love to hear it!

A DeKalb reunion...how much fun would THAT be?

Dude - a DeKalb reunion would be great. I loved your last post. Anyway - we're always here. I think there may be a big fB show in August - the boys are talking again. If you joined e-pissy I'll get your e-mail from there or from your blog and sned you my e-mail - you can send me your snail mail address and I can send you a digitized (but not sanitized) floatingBasement CD. You rock girl! How's that little angel of yours?

One of my all-time favorite memories from "back in the day" was a forray into mind-altering chemicals mixed with an all-night "Sid and Marty Kroft" marathon on Third St.

When it got too hot to deal in Bill's apt., a bunch of folks sat on the curb on the street. This had to have been after the bars closed because a big crowd gathered. They were most likely drawn in by the siren song of one edp and his accordian.

I remember that the cops drove by and slowed down but did not stop or say anything. They probably thought "they're not doing anything too disruptive and, well, there's an accordian." Good times.

- I lived in DeKalb? I don't seem to remember, for some reason. Oh yeah, right...

- Ye olde BO Brewery will always have a special place in my heart thanks to their Belgium Abbey Pub Ale. After 4 of those I was ready to invade Poland (or Cortland). Plus, it made one hell of a back-stop for the random roof-top shooting spree.

- I'm always back in IL for a couple of weeks in August (usually toward the end). I'd be up for a reunion (which should be held unannounced at Bill's house, just like the old days). That would be a good time to tape the EdP live show. "Good" being used in its loosest definition.

If anyone wants to attempt to organize said reunion, we will come: I'll bring the Pea, the Bob, the whole fam. The Pea, or "little angel" is a big as a barn. A joke she just told me in the car: What do you call a pig that came out of an egg?" "A piggychick!'

Not to do the MY Kid is So Cute thing, but here's another of her jokes:
"What did the skeleton say to the graveyard?
"I'm GLAD TO BE DEAD AND ALIVE!"

Hurry now--must start planning, sending invites...and this only gives me 6 months to lose weight (KIDDING, KIDDING!)

We need an organizer...

"Good" meaning when ed is his loosest/drunkest ever. Oh well - it's like DC Liar said originally - "You tried making your solo record sober. Now try it the right way " (or at least the way all the other records were made.

Chris - Ed played The Kinks' "In the Summertime" - I think that was when the cop went by - it was a jolly feel-good sing-along - and who could bust people for that?

Forgive all the dashes instead of real punctuation - when in Edville, do as the Eddians do, I guess - - -
