Go to the Clutch of Your Choice
Today I thank my gentle and merciful God for helping me find a place where I can work that is close to my child and that allows me to pick up his poor little fever-riddled ass when he is sick. Thank you God for giving my son a mother that offers comfort in the very sound of her voice. Please be with our beautiful child as he fights his fever and keep him cheerful and an example of your love, even when he’s feeling cruddy.
I’m also very grateful for and to ChrisB. He gave me a bunch of new music last night including this Clutch record. KJ had a great quote: “With that name, the band just sounds like it rocks.”
It does and they do
I can’t believe how interesting the lyrics are. Bands that rock this hard tend to be a bunch of knuckleheads going arrgh arrrgh arrrgh!...but not all bands are Mastodon. I shouldn’t talk, I’ve been really into watching live Mastodon performances on You Tube. They’re always playing at the Reichstag or some shit like that. At least they can spell the word – I can’t…anyone who owns the fB’s 3rd record Smell-0-Vision can just check out the track listing to see what a boob I am.
Enough. I am dying to offer this about the upcoming midterm elections…as if my dumbassery from the other day wasn’t sufficient. I say right in the profile these thoughts are unsolicited. You don’t have to squeeze my head to get this shit out of me. I am sort of a shit Pez dispenser (as if the regular Pez Pez dispensers are hot shit and all that).
Oh, my insights on the coming midterms…
Don’t believe the hype about how the race is over and the D’s have already taken back one or both Houses. I’m not sure if the religious right understands how the R’s (at least in the White House) sold them out. They may still show up and vote Blue Tie out of acquired habit. I don’t know if Americans beyond the viewer ship of KO’s Countdown think they can punish g bushy by voting R’s out of Congress. I think many of us are unaware of the issues that are floating out there getting the angry R base mobilized enough to vote angry. We dismiss the talk of immigrants, building walls and wild claims of immigrants draining the American health care system as hatemongering. This activity may in fact be active hatemongering…but this is America folks…
THERE’S VOTES IN HATEMONGERING!
I may be wrong…but just because there are enough seats in play to give the D’s some room for error in trying to retake one or both houses - - - never underestimate the D’s or your own (or my own) capacity to misunderstand the issue that will drive the election in a wacky direction.
Anyhoo it's the 7th inning of the WS Game 3 and they're playing God Bless America.
I hate that damned song.
Where's Woody Guthrie when ya need him?

I meant "misunderestimate"
Dammit!
Re: politics - it's surprising how many republicans are still so clingy to the party even in the continuing wake of disaster. There are so few positives at this time - who are they waiting for as the candidate(s) to make it all right? I think a blue vote is a vote for Fox News rhetoric.
Re: Clutch - first band to christen the new Rod Almighty PA speakers way back when. Further proof - check the web site:
www.pro-rock.com. KJ is right!
We (the Ds) don't have it sewn up at all. The Gerrymandering and the GOTV are NOT overrated.
The fact the troglodyte base of the Repubs will knock on doors, poll-watch, put up lawn signs, and phone bank whereas the average Dem somehow thinks the party should be kissing their ass or their one piddly vote is a HUGE problem.
Here's my bulletin to all Dems. No one cares about your piddly vote. Work, dammit, and fight to take this thing back. Get 10 votes to the polls, then we'll let you talk, get 100 and we might listen.
I'm so sick and tired of Dems that have no problem complaining for 2 years at a time, but want to maintain some sort of cerebral detachment from the actual ground war that wins campaigns. They all suck.
Work, dammit. Fight. Because if we lose and you come to me self-congratulating yourself for getting yourself and only yourself to the polls, I will slap you upside the head.
If the only person you got to the polls was you, you failed.
And I say this knowing most of you guys are really disaffected conservatives, so you're off the hook for now.
Sorry, got to rage over here because my blog has closed ranks till the elections and I can't badmouth lazy-ass dems over there.
I believe that Woody Guthrie is in a simple, pinewood box.
Keener bringing the noise and bringing the funk.
P.S. I am not an infected conservative.
And I believe we should use disinfectants liberally.
Uh, I think that makes me a conservative or at least shows that I don't give a fuck about hydrofloralcarbons (or spelling)
HC4s?
Perhaps my cerebellum is detached, but I have never understood the point of political doorknocking. How could it possibly be effective? Does anyone know even one person who decided to vote based solely on some worker bee ringing the doorbell during naptime on Sunday, much less changed the vote to whatever party the bee was hawking? If people are that easily swayed ("I'm voting D because this cute girl told me to ... oh, wait, that R girl is cuter, I'll vote R now")they have no business voting at all. Methinks people ought to think for themselves about what they want and why, and vote accordingly - but then, I suck.
GOTV works, and gets out votes especially in midterms.
It doesn't change peoples minds, but it does get them involved, bring it to the front of their minds.
A lot of the GOTV effect has been quantified. It's huge. Especially in midterms when targeting the 4-year voters.
Even in the 4-year cycle it's big. NH largely went Blue in 2004 soley on a giant GOTV effort focussed on one blue county. By getting grossly disproportionate turnout in Cheshire County, Red votes in other counties were offset.
I didn't know this until recently, I thought it was all silly too. But it's been this way forever. They quite literally reintroduced the idea of Precinct Captains, a neighbor to neighbor idea that you can read about in historical materials going back to Abe Lincoln's Senate run...
One way to look at it is it rewards passionate involvement, because to tap the voters that don't show up you need the boots on the ground.
I'm still uneasy with party involvement myself. But I've come to the conclusion it's absolutely necessary, or at least campaign involvement.
A much better response than I was expecting, Keener. Thanks for taking the time.
No problem, jeanz.
The other thing I didn't understand until recently was the whole voter ID effort -- that is we get specific lists of people that registered Dem and voted, but only in presidential years.
We don't knock on republican doors, or Dems that come out every time. Just the ones who have ignored the midterms.
The GOP has got voter ID databases that the Dems would die for -- they've tracked exactly what combo of doorknocking, mail follow-up + phone follow-up produces the best result at what interval. It's scary.
The Dems have none of that yet. This year it brute force of boots on the ground, knocking on doors of 4-year Dems based straight of voter rolls. But hopefully it's enough.
Thanks for listening jeanz.
